Sustainable Building – From Molecules to Mortgages
Defining sustainability is easy; accomplishing it is the hard part. Peter will layout a spectrum of sustainable building practices that building professionals need to follow, but extend the discussion to what is needed from our financial sectors. (AIA-1.5 HSW/SD)
“ADD SALES” FIELD TRAININGS:
10:45am - 12pm: A New Approach to Green Building
Tom Harris, Solutions Representative for OSI (Henkel Corp)
Caulk, Sealants and Adhesives- A course on how sealants and adhesives contribute to today's LEED and NAHB Green Building Process. Why using a Series of third party, Greenguard certified sealants and adhesive products from one manufacturer make it easy to specify and insure the job has high performance outcomes and low V.O.C emissions.
1:30pm - 2:45pm: Rain Screen Techniques
Stephen Jones, Sales Manager, Princeton Forest Products
Understand the forces that push rain into buildings and know where rain causes the most damage. Know what to look for in window and joint design to reduce water entry. Understand the concept of a rain screen and be able to determine when a rain screen design is an appropriate solution.
AIA TRAININGS
10:45am - 12pm: Improving Energy Performance and Moisture Management of Walls
Jodi Hawn, Dow Building Solutions Senior Account Representative
This course provides a quick review of building trends and a background of the building science of insulation. Including a review of the challenges with energy efficiency and moisture control on why they happen and the solutions to stop them. (AIA-2.0 HSW)
1:30pm - 2:45pm: Mineral Wool Insulation: Sustainable Solutions for Thermal, Fire, and Sound Contriol - 1 hour CEU
Thomas Whipple, Northeast U.S. Specifications Manager
The energy savings potential of a properly insulated building is well understood. However, as design professionals work to maximize the thermal resistance of wall assemblies and reduce wall section thickness, insulation is being positioned both in the stud wall and on the exterior side of the wall assembly. This split insulation concept, has introduced several design concerns related to fire resistance and the drying potential of wall assemblies. This program will focus on the unique properties of mineral wool insulation and how it can improve the wall assembly performance related to thermal, fire, water, and sound control. (AIA-1.0 HSW/SD)
MARYLAND STATE TRAININGS:
10:45am - 12pm: 2012 Tax Rebate Credits
Presented by HBAM’s Green Building Council
Remodelers and Builders will be able to educate their homeowner customers after this workshop that provides an overview of the available 2012 Homeowner Energy Tax Rebates. Leave with information on the benefits (financial and energy savings) of performing home upgrades in the State of Maryland and contract more jobs.
1:30pm - 2:45pm: Incorporating Building Science Solutions to Meet the New Codes
Jodi Hawn, Dow Building Solutions Senior Account Representative
An overview of Building science covering thermal bridging, below grade insulation (including conditioned crawl spaces and insulting basements) and air sealing. Then how this all is incorporated into the 2012 IECC changes that went in to effect in Maryland on January 1, 2012.
